Product Details

Serial #NSN stock number LTC.6762 This offering is for the pictured Remington Rolling Block Model 1897 Small Bore Military Rifle. In only good looking condition, it was a military sales contract rifle likely sold to Central or South America, considering the caliber.

If followed the short-lived Model 1896 and was produced for 5 years until replaced by the Model 1902. Originally offered in 7mm Spanish Mauser, 7.65 Belgian Mauser, 30-40 Krag and 303 British.

Used condition and maker marked from Remington on the tang.

Metal finish is turned a patina with a frosted appearance on the barrel top. Crisp hammer cock and the ejector appears to work fine. Early Edwards tangent rear sight and has the sliding bar extractor, a feature that helps identify this model.

Wood is ok overall but as is typical of the design the hand guard has cracks. Typical dings and scuffs on the stock wood with one crack in left front of the receiver. Sound overall.

Chambered in 7mm Mauser the bore has good rifling, frosted lands with darker frosted grooves.

Makes a fine rifle for the military collector.
