Antique German Gew 88/05 1888 Commission Rifle. In good looking condition and maker marked from the Danzig Arsenals in 1889. This one has seen military service from the late 1800's thru WW1 and beyond. Barrel bands are unit marked for WW1 service with reserve troops and later sold to Turkey for military use and has Turkish markings on the bolt.

Originally chambered for the 7.9mm Patrone 88 cartridge, it has the 1905 update for the use of the modern 7.9mm Patrone S round, with updated rear sight and modern stripper clip guides.

Refinished condition, Sound stock that has been sanded with finish applied. Metal is fully blued from Turkish mil refurbishment programs, good barrel shroud and original cleaning rod and the bolt head is intact, slight pinprick corrsion spots on the barrel shroud right side. Chambered in 7.92x57mm Patron S, the bore has very good rifling with slight frost in the grooves.

Makes a good rifle for the military collector.

Safety statement. Although chambered in 7.92x57 Patrone S, this is not for 7.92 patrone s.S (heavy ball) Gunsmiths and shooters for years have discourage modern shooting in this old type action.
