German K98 Mauser Chinese Contract Rifle. In good looking condition and produced on contract for Chinese military use in the late 1930's. Maker marked from the Mauser Arsenals in Germany and stamped with the "banner" type logo on the receiver it is identical to the K98 Mausers in use with German Military.

These export Mausers in the K98 configuration were some of the last produced for China as Japan was putting pressure on Germany to ended arms sales ahead of the Sino-Japanese conflict.

Marked on the receiver, barrel and bolt handle root with the Chinese Nationalist Star acceptance mark, Mauser banner marked on the receiver and faintly on the butt stock. Serial numbers do not match is (mismatched bolt and cleaning rod only). Metal finish is worn blue turning a patina with some brite areas on the barrel and sharp edges. Wood is laminated and has been sanded with only a faint Mauser banner visible on the left side butt, has a crack under the left side wrist, appears glued sound.

Chambered in 8mm Mauser the bore has very good smooth rifling with darker frosted grooves. Import marked.

Makes a fine rifle for the military collector.
