German WW1 Kar 98a Mauser Carbine. This model is the short rifle issued to Cavalry, Assault Troops and other special purpose troops needing a handier weapon. Maker marked from the Erfurt Arsenals and dated 1917.

This has mis matched serial numbers but ..... the rifle (1947) match itself and the bolt  (7122) matches itself with mis matched action screws.

Unit marked on the Butt plate G.A.L.AUF.

Features a small ring receiver with a turned down bolt, metal finish is blued with wear turning a patina. Unique stacking hook on the underside.

This has a sound hardwood stock and hand guard with faint Imperial cartouches. Forend is "duffle cut" under the rear band and was likely a WW1 bring back. Many Kar98's we have seen are duffle cut and were a popular trophy.

Chambered in 8mm Mauser the bore has very good rifling brite with smooth lands and grooves. Not import marked.

A fine rifle for the military collector.
