Item #4711 This offering is for the pictured French Lebel Mle 1886/96/16 bayonet. In good looking condition, this version is a slight modification of the original Mle 1886 design. Manufactured without the hook quillion and slightly shorter overall.
20.5 inches in overall length with a 15.75 inch cruciform blade. Good brass handle with nice patina, small dent on the left side. Blade and handle steel are blued or slight patina. Serial numbers no longer match.
This is an épée type bayonet made for thrusting and designed to readily penetrate thick clothing and leather.
Original steel scabbard has a black coat of paint on it.
Fits both the Lebel and Berthier rifles.
Makes a fine bayonet for the military collector.
